Jo Greenhalgh
Ceramicist

Jo Greenhalgh’s ceramic practice explores form, structure, and imagination through hand-built work. While occasionally creating traditional forms, the primary focus is on pieces inspired by nature..
In response to Expressions and Impressions, a body of work is being developed that is rooted in skeletal form. The pieces exhibited are a ‘flock’ of graceful birds and stylised bull skulls, which draw from natural anatomy while allowing space for interpretation and invention.
Drawing on a background in graphic design, Jo’s work transfers her understanding of line, composition, colour, and visual balance into three-dimensional form. This influence extends into surface treatment, where mark-making, pattern, and texture leave physical impressions that enhance the underlying structure. Jo is particularly interested in pushing the capabilities of clay, incorporating delicate elements such as feathers and fine appendages to expand both the visual and structural possibilities.
